What is Myndplan?

Myndplan is more than a set of tools, it reflects a new way of approaching yourself and your problems.

In this blog post, I go into detail on some of the features that we've built into Myndplan. They cover several aspects of psychological assessment, diagnosis, and treatment, and can be used either as part of a self-help approach to recovery or a supplement to regular on line or face-to-face therapy. For a much briefer overview of our features – check out our website

Taking the Myndscan

The first step in any helping process is assessing what exactly is going on, so that you can pick the most effective treatment approach and set reasonable goals for how to carry it out. The Myndscan is our way of helping you do this. It all started more than a decade ago when I realized that the usual tests used by psychologists were expensive and inconvenient to use. Plus, the average consumer couldn't even access them, not to mention make sense of their results. On the other hand, a lot of free screening tools were starting to appear, but they tended to over-diagnose some of the more common conditions like depression and general anxiety since they were a key marketing tool for drug companies.

The Myndscan was built to get around these problems. It's a complete assessment inventory, which means that it contains a lot of questions covering just about everything you'd want to know about your mental health. It starts by sampling any known risk factors, probes key aspects of your overall health, then dives deep into your psychological makeup. In all, we sample over two-dozen symptom groups that reflect key aspects of your personality and mental health. They are part of a broader matrix that includes your appetites, energy levels, social functioning, and emotions. These elements include things like your response to challenges, loss, and frustration, your level of support, relationship with others, and with yourself, your sleep and fatigue levels, and the extent to which habits tie you up.

Your results are just the beginning...

Your Myndscan results are provided at no cost. Trends, elements, and factor scores are included. However, most people will want some help interpreting their findings. Just like any medical testing you may have undergone, having the results in your hand is one thing, understanding what those numbers and terms mean and how they apply to you is something completely different. To help you get started, we provide the Discovery Pack. It's a very affordable bundle of courseware that gives you a detailed tour of the Myndscan and it's underlying structure so that you can make sense of your own results. This will help you to interpret the new terminology, get a good grasp of several important concepts underlying the philosophy behind the scans, understand how your results compare with those of other people, and make the best use of our SAGE library.

We call this resource SAGE because it's a source of important knowledge. The name also happens to spell out its contents - a large set of Self Assessment Guides that are Electronically delivered. Each of them works a lot like a friendly version of a diagnostic manual, but there are some important differences. For example, rather than simply listing off collections of symptoms, each Guide explains how problems typically present and the ways in which symptoms tend to cluster. You'll get to see how screening tests work, and learn what their limitations are. But that's only the beginning. Myndplan Guides also give you the opportunity to explore causes and and potential treatments so that you can chart your own path to feeling better. In this way, they function as decision aids to help you through the decision-making process as you sort out what you're going to do to feel better.

Access the Treatment Toolkit

You want personalized treatment, but it should be as efficient as possible, so you aren't paying for something that you can figure out on your own. Myndplan supports your change efforts with all sorts of educational resources outlining the nuts and bolts of how particular treatments can be carried out. They include lots of brief video segments explaining procedures and showing how to carry them out. Also included is a wide range of supporting material, such as practice monitors and screening tools. It's all provided in compact segments that can be used individually or in sequence, so you're not overwhelmed with material. After all, you're signing up for helpful ideas and inspiration, not a college course.

Online Monitoring

The evidence is clear, tracking progress in therapy and session quality influences outcomes. We’ve automated the administration of some simple, quick monitors of common symptoms like anxiety and depression, along with a helpful measure of life satisfaction. Plus, we’ve done the research to uncover how to use the data. Did you know that some simple elements can predict treatment responders versus relapsers? Or that variability between sessions can be a useful indicator of how you are progressing?

Get personal guidance

Access to good quality testing and learning resources, and sometimes even a qualified therapist is not always enough on its own. Many people want the opportunity to go over their findings with someone who is not just an "expert". They want someone who's willing to take the time to listen, who cares, and who can actually relate to what it's like to feel desperate and trapped. Yes, the Myndplan system gives you the opportunity to tap into plenty of self-directed learning opportunities. It also is a great resource to support your work with a therapist. But in addition to this we provide you with the opportunity to talk things over with me.

Talking to someone like me is not meant as a substitute for therapy. Instead, it offers you the opportunity to access a guide who understands not only how Myndplan works, but how the mind works, from a very personal level. That's not going to be for everyone. There are plenty of good therapists out there for the other work you need to do. But on those rare occasions when you want something different, it may be worth a try.

Complete your scans for free

We've made completing the Myndscan as easy as possible. It takes less than half and hour to finish the items, and your results are available immediately. If you get interrupted or need to take a break, you can pick up where you left off any time you want. Plus, there's no obligation to go any further. Feel free to use the results any way you wish. They may inform your own desire to know more about yourself, or you can give them to your therapist. It's your choice.

Find your path to better mental health.

Drawing from the best research, Myndplan provides the tools and support you need.
