What is Myndplan?

It's an app, a learning management system, and a virtual office all in one.

In this blog post, I go into detail on some of the features that we've built into Myndplan. They help you assess & monitor your symptoms, provide an extensive library of helpful learning resources, and set you up with a virtual therapy office. For a much briefer overview of our features – check out our website

It starts with a Free Consultation

Most people are pretty cautious about asking for help, particularly when there is a price tag associated with it. In fact, this sense of caution is one of the biggest reasons why a lot of people never get help despite the many benefits that therapy offers. That's why we decided it was important to make it as easy and risk free as possible for people to get started. Anyone can book a free consultation to find out whether Myndplan is right for them. It only takes a second or two to secure a brief session with Dr. Shepherd (yes, that's me) which gives you a chance to ask a few questions and check out the feel of things. If you decide it's not for you, that's fine. If you want to take the next step, you can get started on your Myndscan right away.

How can we afford to do this? Well, for one thing, because Myndplan is in its Beta stage, traffic to our site is still relatively light, so we don't have to worry about being overwhelmed with people's requests to talk to me. Offering free consults also gives us a terrific opportunity to learn about who is interested in our service, what they are looking for, and how good the fit is between those two things. Plus, an informed consumer who knows what they are getting into will be more likely to be satisfied with the service.

Taking the Myndscan

The first step in any helping process is assessing what exactly is going on, so that you and your therapist can pick the most effective treatment approach and set reasonable goals for how to carry it out. The Myndscan is our way of doing this. It all started more than a decade ago when I realized that the usual tests used by psychologists were expensive and inconvenient to use. Plus, the average consumer couldn't even access them, not to mention make sense of their results. On the other hand, a lot of screening tools were starting to appear, but they tended to over-diagnose problems since they were a key marketing tool for drug companies.

The Myndscan was built to get around these problems. It's a complete assessment inventory, which means that it contains a lot of questions covering just about everything you'd want to know about a person's mental health. It starts by sampling any known risk factors, probes key aspects of your overall health, then dives deep into your psychological makeup. In all, we sample over two-dozen symptom groups that reflect key aspects of your personality and mental health. They are part of a broader matrix that includes your appetites, energy levels, social functioning, and emotions. These elements include things like your response to challenges, loss, and frustration, your level of support, relationship with others, and with yourself, your sleep and fatigue levels, and the extent to which habits tie you up.

Personalized feedback

You're scans come with lots of self-directed learning opportunities. In fact, we've built an entire library of resources that covers most of the more common mental health diagnoses. We call them "e-Guides". They look a lot like a friendly version of a diagnostic manual, but there are some important differences. For example, rather than simply listing off collections of symptoms, they explain how problems present and how symptoms tend to cluster. You'll get to see how screening tests work, and learn what their limitations are. But that's only the beginning. Myndplan Guides also give you the opportunity to explore and rate causes and and potential treatments so that you can chart your own path to feeling better. Most importantly, your input is linked to your therapist, so that they can keep up with your progress, share your insights, and learn about your preferences.

Most importantly, we've found that even the best testing and learning resources are not enough on their own. Most people need the opportunity to go over their findings with an expert who's willing to take the time to listen, and who understands how to speak in plain terms. Yes, our scans offer plenty of self-directed learning opportunities. But they also give you the opportunity to talk things over with an expert who cares. When you purchase The Myndscan you get direct access via live-video sessions with me to review what your findings mean, and then relate this to what sort of treatments would provide the best fit for your needs.

Online Therapy

Once you've gone through the Myndscan process you should have a pretty good idea of what your needs are when it comes to therapy. For some people, that's all they want from Myndplan. However, many others will want to follow up with some treatment sessions. Myndplan provides the tools you need to do this.

Online Booking

No more answering services or bots to navigate. With Myndplan you get direct access to your therapist's calendar and can book your sessions anytime you want. Plus, you'll be able to choose the length of session you need, instead of having to settle for the traditional "50-minute" hour that most therapists impose on their clients, or subscribe to an open-ended text contract where "unlimited" only applies to how much you are willing to type. This means that if you only need to check in for 10 minutes, you can do it. Need a bit more time but not a full session? Perhaps 25 minutes is what you need. With flexible booking you can tailor session to your own schedule, needs, and budget.

Virtual Sessions

Online sessions allow you to see your therapist, but also much more. Your Myndplan virtual sessions give you and your therapist the ability to screen share, so that information can pass back and forth quickly and easily. This means that your therapist can show you what's happening in your mind when you're getting stuck or how a treatment works using our neurodynamic mapping approach, or help you find a resource or interpret a finding on your scans by going directly to it.

Treatment Toolkit

You want personalized treatment, but it should be as efficient as possible, so you aren't paying for something that you can figure out on your own. Myndplan supports your virtual therapy sessions with all sorts of educational resources outlining the nuts and bolts of how particular treatments can be carried out. They include lots of brief video segments explaining procedures and showing how to carry them out between sessions. Also included is a wide range of supporting material, such as monitor and screening tools. It's all provided in compact segments that are hand picked by you and your therapist, so you're not overwhelmed with material. After all, you're signing up for therapy, not a college course.

Online Monitoring

The evidence is clear, tracking progress in therapy and session quality influences outcomes. We’ve automated the administration of some simple, quick monitors of common symptoms like anxiety and depression, along with a helpful measure of life satisfaction. Plus, we’ve done the research to uncover how to use the data. Did you know that some simple elements can predict treatment responders versus relapsers? Or that variability between sessions can be a useful indicator of how you are progressing?

Manage Payments Easily

You get control over how payments are made, plus you can easily track invoices so that you can use them for tax or insurance purposes. Want to take a break from therapy? It's easy to change your settings so that your credit card is active or not. Myndplan follows the strictest payment standards, meaning that we don't bill in advance, make you commit to expensive subscriptions, or go through huge hassles to cancel sessions when you schedule changes.

Sign Up For A Free Consult

Still have some questions? Sign up for a Free Consultation interview. That will give you taste for how things work and what it's like to talk to me. It will only take a few minutes, and there's no obligation to go any further if you decide Myndplan isn't for you.
